NRAS Health Wallet testing

About the study

NRAS is actively working in the field of digital technology and looking at how remote monitoring using an app called the NRAS Health Wallet (developed by COHESION Medical), on smartphones can help people proactively monitor and manage their disease between appointments with their team.  You are probably well aware how challenged rheumatology services are post pandemic and that you may be seeing your team less often than before the pandemic, so having the ability to keep track of your symptoms and how you are between appointments is very important.

We have already carried out work in partnership with Cohesion looking at how to build trust and confidence between patients and their rheumatology team in remote monitoring, using the Citizen Wallet, with very good results and we now want to use key learnings from that work to take the testing phase to the next stage.

We believe that it is important for people to have access to high quality, supported self-management resources to support health and wellbeing between appointments with your team. We want to test over a period of 12 months, the long-term impact of being able to monitor and track physical and emotional health and have direct contact with NRAS’ supported self-management resources through the Wallet. Therefore, we are looking for eligible people to get involved and work with us to test this and help us to answer these and other questions. If you wish to learn more about the study and what will be involved, please view our information sheet here

Your involvement

We would like to invite volunteers to take part in using the NRAS Health Wallet on their smartphone exploring the impact of their Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) or Adult Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (AJIA) on their daily functioning and wellbeing of people living with rheumatoid arthritis. NRAS will recruit ~200 people with RA or AJIA to participate in this second phase of work.  To take part in this study, we will ask you to:

1.       Use the NRAS Health Wallet to input some baseline information before you start using the wallet such as information about you and your circle of care, your disease, your medication and additional information such as your blood pressure (if you know it), for example as well as other health information including whether you have any other conditions in addition to your RA or AJIA.

2.     Use the NRAS Health Wallet at least once a week (although you will be able to use it as often as you like to):

  • Tell us how you are and what, if any, symptoms you are having problems with
  • Fill in the ‘What Matters to you’ section
  • Fill in Patient Reported Outcome Measure/s (PROM) questionnaires which might include short questionnaires about work, emotional health
  • Report any other issues through the Wallet

3.     Over a period of a week or a fortnight we may ask you to fill in a PROM/s questionnaire on a daily basis. Good notice will be given as to when this will happen, and we will avoid key holiday periods.

Eligibility

We are looking for as diverse group of volunteers as possible to ensure that, if possible, they include men as well as women, people who identify as other, people from ethnic communities, those from both rural and urban/inner city communities and people who may not be used to using digital technology to manage their health or daily activities (as long as they have a smartphone). If you fall into any of the above categories, we particularly want to hear from you.

You can participate if you are:

  • Aged over 18 years old

  • Have been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis or another form of inflammatory arthritis such as Adult Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis, Psoriatic Arthritis)

  • Live in the UK

  • Have a smartphone* and expect to have constant and reliable access to an internet connection over a period of 12 months.

* Your smartphone needs to be no older than about 6-7 years and its suitability, should you wish to participate, would need to be checked by COHESION in advance.

Your Details
